Read to the Beat: Summer Reading Challenge Sessions (Tuesday Afternoons)
Take part in the Read to the Beat Summer Reading Challenge – read 6 books in 6 weeks! Children are invited to register with us online as new Camden Library members. Tuesday-afternoon sessions for children aged 4–11, in partnership with Camden Libraries and The Reading Agency.
Weekly line-up:
- 21 July – Launch of our Summer Reading Challenge. Local author Anne John-Ligali reads from Chaos at the Carnival with music, followed by Carnival mask-making. (See the separate launch listing.)
- 28 July – Traditional Chinese Storytelling with Ms Yue Jin and Siew Kit Lee. Children are encouraged to create noises and sounds as the story progresses, followed by a colourful paper flower-making workshop.
- 4 August – Storytelling from Around the World with Sheryl Sze, using musical sounds and sound effects. Stories cross languages and cultures.
- 11 August – Learn the Chinese Fan Dance, a traditional art form going back over 2,000 years, with Ms Yue Jin and Siew Kit Lee. Design, make and paint your own fan and take part in a fan dance performance.
- 18 August – The Story Makers Club with Sheryl Sze. Story writing to build literacy, creativity, emotional intelligence and empathy.
- 25 August – Learn about the Chinese Sword Dance from the Tang Dynasty, combining martial arts with classical dance. Make your own sword from card and take part in the dance with Ms Yue Jin and Siew Kit Lee.
New members welcome but must complete a membership form.
